British firm offers to insure Marbella homes against demolition

A British insurance firm has seen a business opportunity in the concern of the owners of the 30,000 illegal properties in Marbella. The experts have studied the risks and next month First Title, a subsidiary of First American Corporation, will start to sell a new policy to insure properties acquired in recent years in Marbella in the light of the possibility that they could face the bulldozers due to their planning permission being annulled by the courts.

The policy is aimed initially at British and Irish home owners but the firm has not ruled out also offering their product to Spanish proprietors.

According to a company spokesperson, their aim is to insure properties built in Marbella with planning permission that has since been annulled by the courts, and whose buyers were unaware of the future legal problems at the time of purchase.
