Spain sets record for broadband adds in November

The number of new broadband connections in Spain reached a record in November, according to the latest figures from the CMT. The telecoms regulator said 170,674 new DSL lines were connected, 16.48 percent more than in the same month last year, and a record. The number of cable modem connections was also the highest since figures have been kept, at 43,416 new lines. The new 214,090 broadband lines connected in November brings Spain's total to 6.49 million, a penetration rate of 14.7 lines per 100 inhabitants. The latest figures also show sustained growth in wholesale broadband, broadband infrastructure rented from Telefonica by rival operators. By November, there were 885,363 local loops rented, 6.62 percent more than in October and more than double November 2005.
