Surgeons win handsome stakes - at least in Spain!

A number of consultants in the University of Barcelona Hospital, after noticing during their medical school days that student surgeons seemed to be taller and better looking than student physicians, decided to test their theory.

They took a random sample of 12 surgeons and 12 physicians, as well as four controls- actors in medical dramas like ER and Greys Anatomy.

An (all female) independent committee evaluated all 28 men, giving them a good-looking score of between 1 and 7.

The actors, such as George Clooney, had significantly higher good looking scores overall, but surgeons had higher good-looking scores than physicians. Senior male surgeons are significantly taller and better looking than senior male physicians, and film stars who play doctors are significantly better looking than real surgeons and physicians wrote the authors in the British Medical Journal.
